Solar PV Training & Research System Installation at AMU

Solar PV Training and Research System installed at AMU enabling students and researchers to study solar PV lab concepts, PV characteristics, and inverter performance through hands-on experiments.

Solar PV Training and Research System Installation at Centre of Integrated Green & Renewable Energy, AMU

The Centre of Integrated Green & Renewable Energy at AMU has implemented a state-of-the-art Solar PV Training and Research System to strengthen its Solar PV Lab and support advanced renewable energy education. This installation provides hands-on exposure to PV module behaviour, inverter operation, MPPT techniques, and real-time data analysis, enabling AMU to enhance both teaching and research outcomes in solar energy.

About Installation

The installation consisted of a turnkey deployment of a complete Solar PV Training and Research System designed for academic and research-focused Solar PV Labs.

The Ecosense engineering team completed installation, configuration, calibration, and on-site testing at the AMU renewable energy centre.

This new facility now supports structured experiments aligned with degree programs, enabling detailed study of electrical characteristics, system behaviour, and PV performance under controlled laboratory conditions.

Overview of the Solar PV Training and Research System

The Solar PV Training and Research System is a modular platform that replicates real-world PV behaviour within a controlled Solar PV Lab environment. It enables accurate analysis of IV characteristics, MPPT responses, shading effects, temperature variations, and inverter performance.

Key components include:

  • Artificial Sunlight source with dimmer to vary irradiance
  • MPPT Controller Interface for algorithm performance study
  • Grid-Tied and Off-Grid Inverter Support for conversion efficiency analysis
  • DC Loads, Protection Units, and Cabling for safe experimentation
  • IV Curve Tracing and Data Acquisition System
  • Real-Time Monitoring Software for detailed PV behaviour analysis

This structure provides AMU with a research-ready Solar PV Lab capable of supporting detailed experimental studies and advanced project work.

Masters Training Conducted

A comprehensive Master's-level training program introduced the operational workflow of the Solar PV Training and Research System and hands-on experimentation within the Solar PV Lab. The training covered:

  • Operating the PV emulator and monitoring interface
  • IV curve plotting and parameter estimation
  • MPPT algorithm analysis using controlled irradiance variation
  • Shading and module mismatch studies
  • Inverter performance evaluation and waveform assessment
  • Safety protocols for Solar PV Lab environments

This ensures faculty and research scholars can independently utilize the system for coursework, dissertations, and applied research.

How the Solar PV Training and Research System Enhances a Solar PV Lab

  • Creates a Realistic and Continuous Learning Environment: The system makes the Solar PV Lab independent of weather, offering year-round experimentation and predictable conditions for repeatable academic outcomes.
  • Enables High-Level Solar PV Research: Advanced features like IV curve tracing, shading simulation, and MPPT behaviour analysis make the Solar PV Lab suitable for M.Tech and Ph.D. level studies.
  • Covers the Complete PV Energy Conversion Chain: Students explore PV modules, DC-DC stages, MPPT logic, inverter operation, and AC output within one integrated Solar PV Training and Research System.
  • Enhances Conceptual Understanding Through Experiments: Students perform hands-on experiments rather than theoretical-only learning, making the Solar PV Lab more effective for teaching critical solar energy concepts.
  • Provides High-Quality Research Data: The system’s real-time monitoring and data logging tools support precise investigation, comparison, and documentation for research publications.
